Notes for Thomas HUGHES
They lived at Goodwater in Iron County later moving to Dent County and purchased the site of Howes Mill after the Civil War. They also owned a large acreage around Howes Mill. A grist mill, post office, and store was located on this farm and was found by Thomas Howe, a native of Pennsylvania. The post office is named after him. The Hughes family became the owners shortly after his death and Howes Mill was then owned by the Thomas D. Hughes family.
