Daniel at age 23 bought 120 acres of the original homestead for $140 from his mother and his stepfather/uncle, Elijah. Daniel and Mary were farmers. Daneil was an ordained minister. Rev. Pyatt deeded some of his land and built a church around 1924 and called it "Pyatt Hollow Church". He and his sons, Jim and Bud, ministered there for many years. His grandson, Esco Pyatt, son of Wash and Cora Pyatt, taught Sunday School and was Sunday School Supt. for many years. Later on around the early 1940's, Rev. Daniel Pyatt's grandson, Lushen Pyatt, deeded some of his land for a new church up on the old C.C. road which is now called Center Ridge Church. They should have kept the name Pyatt on the church, since the Pyatt family gave both tracts of land to the church. It was a part of the Pyatt Hollow farm. Until Rev. Daniel Pyatt built the "Pyatt Hollow Church", the community had church in the homes in the winter time and in brush arbors in the summer time. People would come from all around with horse and buggies , on foot and on horse back to the Pyatt Hollow church. |
